Flu Vaccination Service (At Risk Groups)

Protect yourself this flu season with a FREE simple jab if you are in one of the at risk groups.

People aged 18 years and over can be eligible because of a clinical risk condition. The main groups are:

  • Chronic respiratory disease – including COPD, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis and asthma requiring continuous/repeated inhaled or systemic steroids or previous hospital admission for exacerbation.

  • Chronic heart or vascular disease – including chronic heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation, peripheral vascular disease and some congenital heart disease.

  • Chronic kidney disease – particularly CKD stages 3, 4 or 5, chronic kidney failure, nephrotic syndrome or kidney transplant.

  • Chronic liver disease – including cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis.

  • Chronic neurological disease – including stroke/TIA, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, cerebral palsy, dementia, Down's syndrome, severe neurological disability and severe/profound learning disabilities.

  • Diabetes – including type 1, type 2 and diet-controlled diabetes.

  • Adrenal insufficiency, including Addison's disease.

  • Immunosuppression due to illness or treatment – for example chemotherapy, radiotherapy, organ or stem-cell transplant, HIV, haematological malignancy or significant immunosuppressive medicines.

  • Asplenia or splenic dysfunction – including people without a functioning spleen and certain conditions such as sickle cell disease.

  • Morbid obesity – BMI 40 kg/m² or above.

  • Pregnancy at any stage

  • Residents of long-stay care homes

  • Carers

  • close household contacts of immunocompromised people

  • Specified frontline social-care workers
